Law Of Attraction Not Working


I’ve watched The Secret and read as much as I can about the Law Of Attraction. I keep trying to make it work for me but the problem is I can’t stop negative thoughts from coming up all the time and it feels like I’ll never be able to attract what I want. It seems to be working for so many people, what’s wrong with me? I feel like a complete failure and I know beating myself up isn’t going to help it’ll just make it worse. What can I do?


I have unfortunately heard this too many times from too many people. Having a negative thought is not the enemy. Looking at your thoughts without emotion can help you to understand what it is in your belief system that you need to tackle.

There isn’t anyone on earth who can rid themselves of all negative thought. I realize that it appears that the speakers of The Secret only have positive thoughts however that’s not that true.

When you have a negative thought acknowledge it, as you have no control over the thought, and then choose again. By choosing again I mean make a positive affirmation of what it is that you positively intend.

There’s a great new book out by Neale Donald Walsch called “Happier Than God”. It explains how the Law Of Attraction works – you can call it the secret behind The Secret. It covers everything in great detail. This book is an absolute treasure and a gift that you should give yourself.

Maybe you are trying too hard. Take a deep breath and relax a bit. You obviously get the concept and how to put it into your life, obsessing and worrying about it is actually counter productive because that is what you are putting out there. So you are actually attracting what you are thinking “It seems to be working for so many people, what’s wrong with me? Therefore based on the Law of Attraction what you are getting back is – it isn’t working for you.

All self-help advice such as The Secret is only a tool intended to help you build a better life. They are presented as one size fits all when in fact you have to figure out how to make them work for you because everyone’s life is unique.

  1. … the unspoken secret behind the secret is that there is NO such thing as the law of attraction. For anything to happen in the Universe the entire Universe must conspire, in order for that “thing” to happen. Everything is the cause of everything else in the Universe and to imagine that the “I” can influence, change and affect anything at a “causal” level is an illusion.

    The problem with formulaes, ideas, or concepts whether it be physics or psychology, health or spirituality is that they are at their most innocence they are simply stratagy for succesful living. Sometimes strategies work, sometimes they don’t.

    “IF” the law of attraction is working it has nothing to do with the kind of thoughts you have. If it is not working, it also has nothing to do with the thoughts you are having.

    Consciousness does not recongnise higher or lower, good or bad, posative or negative. It is only the mind which comes up with these kind of distinctions and then places significance on them. Dichotamizing life will only get you into trouble! It will only lead to more suffering on all levels.

    When the law of attraction IS working we could say that it is happening because your attention has been placed on, or acknowledged, recongnized or “caught” something that was percolating already. You picked up an intention or desire of something that was “in the making”, allowed your attention to remain on that desire and poof, it appeared magically before you.

    You then take ownership of that “creation” and you think “I” did this…

    N O T !

    The interesting thing is that everything that was, is and shall be is “in the making”.

    The interesting thing is what I have said up above is also a concept or interpretation of “how things work”, something imagined and therefore not always true AND for sure not “it”.


    here are a couple of thoughts that may support the questioner:

    There is nothing “wrong” with you!

    Don’t concern yourself with the fact you are having posative or negative thoughts. It’s irrelevent. ALL thoughts come from the same “source” even though we (the mind) labels them as good or bad, saintly or sinnerly.

    Take the time to notice those thoughts. They come and they go. They arise and the subside. There is a space in between them, there is a pause before and after them.

    Notice this.

    Allow this.

    Try not to judge those thoughts. If you do remind yourself that it is just another thought…

    If your still caught up in the good ~ bad, mind fuck, practice saying “next” after each thought. There will always be another thought (good or bad). You are not your thoughts, you are the one who is “having” the thoughts…

    It’s not really so much about “doing” its about being. Being Who You Are already. Because your attention has been focused on the foreground of life (out their) you have in the past, “missed’ the opportunity of getting to know your real Self.

    If you are still interested in getting in touch with your most innocent and meaningful desires, make a list of them, read them before you go to bed and when you wake up in the morning AND if you practice meditation read them before and after you meditate.

    If your not meditating you might want to learn a practice you feel drawn to. Meditation will introduce the element of detachment into your awareness, this will really suport you on your journey of getting to know Who You Are. You are what you already seek.

    Check out Deepak Chopra’s book: The Seven Spiritual Laws of Success”. It’s also a concept and stratagy, but it opens more doorways of understanding to how the Universe appears to operate

  3. Spiritmindbody are one. Negative thoughts are only symptoms-a reflection of the soul’s condition.
    Be grateful for the awareness that your mind created them and has the power to re-create them.Be grateful for the opportunity to feed and rebalance the energy within your soul-to align youself with the limitless creative possibilities that exist within the Universe.

    Instead of worrying about the negative thoughts you are having, just allow them to be. Be grateful for the awareness that you are having them. In the meantime, focus on thinking about things that support your Highest Good. The more you feed light to your mind, the more light you attract into your life.

    Be GOOD to yourself!


  4. You have just put into words what I have been
    thinking alot about lately. Maybe if I quit worrying so much about XYZ, then maybe XYZ will work itself out. I am making an effort to focus on things that make me happy, instead of things
    that SHOULD make me happy. ..then i think it will work..

  5. I love your idea! When you focus on making yourself happy, you are aligning yourself with the limitless creative energies of the Universe. Your energy is making the “statement”: “I am happy.” So the Universe sends you more things to be happy about.

    I’m learning that when we let go of needing to know “the hows”, and “the whens” ,and “the why”s, we give the Universe the time and space it needs to make things happen. In other words, we are no longer worrying about the details, we trust that the Universe is in the process of supporting us.

    I have read the comments here on the Law of attraction not working. I was introduced to the secret 2 years ago. I started monitoring my thoughts and was shocked they were all negative. I started to change them, the moment a negative thought popped up, I tried to focus on something nice and think of the things I am greatful for.It is a long process cause to change your patterns it takes maybe years. I studied further material of Bob Proctor and saw that there is a lot more to it than the law of attraction. It is a good start but only a start to change your life or get lasting resultsWhen I am not mistaken it took Bob Proctor 9 years to change his paradigm completely so give yourself time.     The basic thing is to define a goal or target and work for it.
    Not sit and dream

    • Sitting and dreaming is what gives us the clarity and ability to define our goal. Without the dream, there is no goal. The intent with which we take an action, is just as important as the action itself. It must be heartfelt. Dream first and dream BIG!

  13. Interesting article. I have found that we aren’t so much attracting what we think, but who we are. This means that the vibration or energy is what pulls it together for us.
